For example: another couple hundred words and I’m over the thousand word mark. Only have to do this 50 more times and I’m done. Elation. Figure that multiplier’s going to drop less and less as it goes though. Let’s see..

2000 * 25

3000 * 16

4000 * 12.5

5000 * 10

6000 * 8

7000 * 7

9000 * 5.5

the scary one: 25,0000 * 2

that’s right, i only have to write 25000 words twice to meet this goal. I like the idea of writing 2000 words 25 times better….

but look at that curve taper off. i bet it graphs real nicely. somehow.

bed.

698 words. The idea is not as good as I thought….or maybe it is. Funny how up until midnight, I was excited about this whole thing, then as if the clock had ominously struck the new month, I was gripped with fear. How on earth?

With the first word, I thought, “I just have to do this 50,000 more times.” Now I’m 1/71 of the way through. Amazing how quickly the multiplier drops. If I can do this 71 more times, I’ll have written 50,000 of the worst words ever combined in the English language. Maybe I should write it in French. Those guys have never said anything good.

(Hey, a French joke! Those always do well…..)

Wish I could find the energy (and the words) to stay up and get a few million written down….

….oh the fear and loathing and the hatred I will garner when everyone realizes I’m all talk and I’m just Some Hack….

whee!

Ok, now I’m looking for sponsors for NaNoWriMo — pledge a dollar amount per word, people. C’mon, it goes to a good cause. Even a penny a word will help feed me for a week (or three.) Open your hearts, open your pocketbooks.

Looking at old docs that I nearly literally puked out and seeing they’re 375 words makes me think that 1500 a day (1666.6666666 repeating actually) isn’t that silly of an idea. We’ll see when reality hits…..

….Halsted is also writing one….

And I’m thinking that the basic outline of a plot, combined with the force of about 35,000 words I’ve left unwritten over the past 10 years might just propel me far enough to get this thing actually happening.

It’s moments like this that I’m tempted to start — to just start typing and getting the thing going, but that’s a big no-no….. Woopy doody doo…..

A mere 9 days until NaNoWriMo begins. I have the barest idea of an opening line — and God knows that’s where everything comes from, right? Who needs outlines? Who needs character sketches? Who needs, for Christ’s sake, a plot even? But it’s about to begin….about to begin….about to begin….

Do I have the will to write 1500 words a day? I don’t think I even have a concept of what 1500 words means. 5 pages? 10? 12? 15? Haven’t written anything more than 3 paragraphs in several years. This is gonna get interesting folks.

For the next several weeks, the Canon will turn into CHnANOwrimoSN (pronounced “Ziff” — the CH is silent) because you can’t spell CHnANOwrimoSN without CHAOS or CANON. Pretty amazing, if you ask me.

Time to get to it, kiddies. The push for words will battle against two brilliant video games, football season, work and my lovely lady. Who will win? Only time will tell. Punch it!
